Francisco guerrero: Pan divino

Bread divine, gracious, holy,
A delicacy that gives sustenance to my soul;
Blessed was that day, moment and hour
When Christ came to abide in these two elements,
For if the soul is hardened,
Here it will be softened by such sweetness.
The bread you contemplate,
O my soul, Is your very God,
who grace and life bestows on you;
And, since this food is health to you,
Doubt not, henceforth, to feast thereon,
For, though your heart be a flint,
Here it will be softened by such sweetness.
