Attollite portas, principes, vestras, et
elavamini, portae aeternales: et introibit
rex gloriae.
Quis est ipse rex gloriae? Dominus fortis
et potens in proelio.
Quis est ipse rex gloriae? Dominus
virtutum ipse est rex gloriae.
Gloria patri et filio et spiritui sancto:
sicut erat in principio et nunc et semper;
et in saecula saeculorum.
Amen.

Lift up your gates, O ye princes, and be lifted
up, ye everlasting doors, and the King of Glory
shall come in.
Who is this King of Glory? It is the Lord,
strong and mighty in battle.
Who is this King of Glory? The Lord of
strength, he himself is the King of Glory.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to
the Holy Ghost: as it was in the beginning, is
now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.

(Psalm 23: 7–10; Byrd has rearranged the
order of the verses, while the Vulgate reading
of verse 8 should be: ‘Quis est iste rex gloriae?
Dominus fortis et potens: Dominus potens in
praelio’)
