Orlande de Lassus: Conditor alme siderum

Conditor alme siderum,
Aeterna lux credentium,
Christe, Redemptor omnium,
Exaudi preces supplicum.

Benign creator of the stars,
eternal light of the faithful,
Christ, Redeemer of all,
hear the prayers of your supplicants.

Qui condolens interitu
Mortis perire saeculum,
Salvasti mundum languidum,
Donans reis remedium.

You, who have been moved to compassion
for this age that may perish in death,
you have saved the afflicted world,
giving healing to sinners.

Vergente mundi vespere,
Uti sponsus de thalamo,
Egressus honestissima
Virginis matris clausula:

As night descends upon the world,
you, like a bridegroom from the nuptial chamber,
came forth, most honourable
issue of a virgin mother:

Cuius forti potentiae
Genu curvantur omnia,
Caelestia, terrestria
Nutu fatentur subdita.

To your strong power
all things bend the knee,
both heavenly things and earthly things,
to your authority.

Te deprecamur, agie,
Venture iudex saeculi,
Conserva nos in tempore
Hostis a telo perfidi.

We pray you, holy one,
the coming judge of all time,
save us in good time
from the treacherous thrust of the enemy.

Laus, honor, virtus, gloria
Deo Patri, et Filio,
Sancto simul Paraclito
In saeculorum saecula.

Praise, honour, might and glory
be to God the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit,
for an age of ages.
